Crowns
At the Family Dentistry of Marc J. Bilodeau, DMD, we offer patients gold or porcelain crowns for their teeth. A crown is recommended when a tooth is susceptible to breaking, the tooth is already fractured, or if a bridge is needed to fill an awkward gap between two teeth.
Crowning a tooth makes the tooth stronger and healthier. Crowns can also be used to cover embarrassing discolored teeth. For our patients who wish to brighten up their smiles, we recommend porcelain crowns. The porcelain crowns cover up the discolored teeth underneath, giving our patients the smile they always wanted.
The traditional crowning process is a two visit procedure. During the first visit, a dental impression is taken of the tooth to later fabricate the crown. The fabrication process involves heating materials at high temperatures to mold the materials into the shape of a tooth. This process cannot be done inside the patient's mouth. It is for this reason a follow up appointment is needed. At the second visit the symmetrically shaped crown is inserted into the mouth completing the crowning procedure.
Veneers
Another option for correcting teeth that are discolored, chipped, or disproportioned is to invest in porcelain veneers. Porcelain veneers are stain-resistant. Patients that enjoy their coffee and red wine, need not worry about staining their teeth that are protected by porcelain veneers. The veneers will continue to keep their white, healthy appearance.
The porcelain custom molded shells are designed to bond and cover the front surface of the teeth. In order to create custom veneers, our dentist first meets with the patient to make impressions of their teeth. Then the impressions are sent to the laboratory to be custom sculpted. At the follow up visit veneers are bonded into place. Patients that elect to go with this option are guaranteed a white, well-proportioned healthy smile.
